Welcome To Spruce Pine Main Street

Spruce Pine Lower Street
Spruce Pine Main Street, funded by the Town of Spruce Pine, with the addition of grants and in-kind gifts, works to promote economic programs to strengthen and expand the income potential of businesses within the downtown district. Main Street also facilitates programs of a civic, social and cultural nature which are designed to increase the aesthetic values of the community and stimulate interest and participation downtown. In addition, Spruce Pine Main Street promotes the historic preservation of our town.

The downtown district features a wide variety of friendly merchants, from craft galleries to bookstores, dining to entertainment, home furnishings to professional services. To request a brochure featuring our merchants, please call 828-765-3008.

Spruce Pine Main Street enhances the beauty of our town with festive plantings. At the entrance to town, flower baskets hang on the bridge railings, greeting visitors. Baskets also adorn our light poles on Locust Street. In the spring of 2008 Spruce Pine Main Street established the Main Street Town Marketing and Appearance Committee, chaired by Sandy Blankenbaker. Five major areas were planted this spring and summer with care by this committee. Over 3,000 bulbs are being planted for the "big spring bloom". Hope you will spring into Spruce Pine for a visit!

A walk around town will lead visitors to several public art projects, including: an iron Sarvice Tree sculpture by internationally recognized artist/blacksmith Elizabeth Brim; a mosaic tile seating area created through a collaboration between Miami tile artist Carlos Alves and community members; and painted murals depicting the four seasons by artist Rhea Ormond.

Spruce Pine Main Street hosts three major festivals each year: Fire on the Mountain Blacksmithing Festival on the last Saturday in April; the Toe River Storytelling Festival held on the third Saturday in July, and the Mineral City Heritage Festival held on the second Saturday in October. To find out more about these wonderful festivals, please visit the links on this site.

Riverside Park rests on the opposite side of the river with a wonderful walking path and access to the Toe River for a little trout fishing. Spruce Pine has been designated as a Mountain Heritage Trout City and trout fishing is available from the banks of the Toe River, which runs through the middle of downtown Spruce Pine.

Train enthusiasts come from far and wide to enjoy watching the frequent passage of CSX trains through downtown Spruce Pine. Over 30 trains a day pass by, often blowing their horns in greeting.

Come visit soon!
